Obituary for Lawrence "Nubby" Hamner Jr.

Lawrence Clifton “Nubby” Hamner, Jr., 95, of Matoaca passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Born December 25, 1922, he was the son of the late Lawrence Clifton Hamner, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Tyler, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Rachel C. Hamner; three sisters, Annabelle Carpenter, Nora Mae Wren, Joyce Robertson; and one brother, Carl L. Hamner. Mr. Hamner was a United States Air Force veteran after proudly serving his country for three years. He retired from the Chesterfield County Police Department after faithfully serving his community as a police officer for over 30 years. He is survived by his son, Lawrence C. Hamner III; devoted grandson, Lawrence C. Hamner IV and his caring wife, Kristin; grandson, Nicholas J. Hamner; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends Wednesday night, February 21, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
