Martha Hicks

Martha V. Hicks, a devoted homemaker and foster mother to countless children, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2023, at the age of 86. Martha was born in Virginia on May 24, 1936, to Calvin and Mae Ellis McNew.  Martha was also preceded in death by her husband William Hicks Jr., a son Joe Grammer, brothers, Ronnie L. McNew, Donald E. McNew, Dean W. McNew, J. Dayton McNew, Calvin L, McNew, and a sister, Della Mae McNew.  She was a loving and compassionate person from a young age and found her calling as a foster mother. Over the years, she provided a warm and nurturing home to numerous children who needed love and support.  Martha was a devoted wife and mother. She was a former member of Crater View Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia.  Martha will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering love, and selflessness. Her legacy will live on through the countless children she cared for and the memories she created with her loved ones. Martha is survived by her sons William H. Hicks, Eugene Grammer, David Grammer, Richard Grammer, nephew, Ricky Hicks and wife Vickie and a host of other family members and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A graveside service will he held 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at Bermuda Memorial Park 1901 Bermuda Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23830.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
