It is with profound sadness that the family of Adam Yanes, Sr. announce his passing on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. He will forever be loved and celebrated by his wife of 57 years, Susan; his children, Eugene, Delia (Keith), Adam Jr. (Tammy), and Lee (Mandy); 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 3 great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister: Joe (Pauline), Jesus, (Lala), David (Annie), and Eva; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Adam was born in San Benito, Texas and was the second oldest of five children to Ernesto Yanes and Magdalena Ocañas. He attended San Benito High School and was well known as both a scholar and star athlete for the Greyhounds. After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorably for over twenty-four years. While in the army he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha and several distinguished awards, including the Bronze Star. Post-retirement, he applied his knowledge and skills acquired from service to his position as a Fuels Procurement Specialist at Dominion Virginia Power for twenty years. Adam will be most remembered for the love and compassion he showed to all. He believed in service to others and was an avid volunteer in multiple organizations. He served as a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America and the ministry at St. Ann Catholic Church. He was a man who never met a stranger, with a wicked sense of humor and wit that put a smile on everyone’s face. When not on the golf course, it was common to see him enjoying a good western movie or novel in his favorite recliner. He also loved music and could be heard singing his favorite songs wherever he went. His enthusiasm for life was passed on to his family, who he adored and celebrated. You could always find him at every sporting event, recital, graduation, and special occasion for each of his children and grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Sunset Memorial Park 2901 W. Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23831. The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
