Albert Lee Hurt Jr., 79, Of Chester, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 15, 2021 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 26, 1942 to the late Albert and Edith Hurt, and later baptized at North Run Baptist Church.
Al Hurt retired from the United States Army as a Sergeant Major after 28 years of distinguished service, which included his most recent deployment to Desert Storm. In his civilian role, he served as a Facility Coordinator for Chesterfield County.
He was an avid hunter and member of Knights Run Hunt Club where he formed many lifelong friendships. If he wasn’t in a hunting blind in the woods, or spending time with family, you could find him in the garden working the earth with his bare hands.
Al is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Patrice Treadaway Hurt; children, Albert Lee Hurt III (Dawn), Gene Carlisle Hurt, Rachel Michelle Tate, Lisa Renae Doss (Chris Kellogg), and Mary Ellen Hurt (David Dubberly); grandchildren, Kayla Singleton, Michael Henry Walta, Joshua Walta, Katelyn Cox, Matthew Cox, Jonathan Diamond, Robert Dubberly, Mary Anne Gibbons, Rebekah Johnston, Faith Dubberly, Lily Dubberly, Raychel Eller, Bryan Singleton, Jordan Hurt, Joanna Hurt, Joshua Hurt, Collin Hurt, and Alanah Hurt; great-grandchildren, Cynthia Singleton, Helena Kuda, JJ Singleton, Kyleigh Walta, and Jameson Walta; brother, Randall Hurt (Marilyn); niece, Heidi Craft; nephew, Allen Hurt (Nicole); and many other loving family members and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday July 28, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia 23002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/donate.
