Alice Burnett

Alice Arrington Burnett, 91, of Colonial Heights, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2023.  She was born on May 17, 1931 in Amelia County, Virginia to the late Glaspy Williams Arrington and Bernard Nathan Arrington.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, James “JM” Mack Burnett, Jr.  She is also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, Bernice A. Mizell, Molly A. Moyer, Ruth A. Talbot, and Robert B. Arrington.

She is survived by her son, James “Jamie” Mack Burnett, III, one sister Jo Ann A. Painter, and also by loving cousins, nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her cats George and Gracie.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, Virginia for 68 years.  At Immanuel, she taught first grade Sunday School for 50 years, was the Art teacher for the Immanuel Church Kindergarten, and taught Vacation Bible School.  She was an active member of the Colonial Heights Senior Citizens Club for many years and held several offices including the correspondence secretary mailing many cards to members with the cards including her artwork.  She had formal art lessons and had her beautiful art displayed throughout her home.  She graduated from Pan American Business College and was employed at DMV, Camp Pickett, and Fort Lee.  Alice was a true Christian and was a kind, caring, and giving Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, and Friend. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, 2:00 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, Virginia.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering care of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, VA, Trinity United Methodist Church, Petersburg, Virginia, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Smitty’s Cat Rescue Shelter, or a charity of your choice.
