Allie Duke Johnson "Mammar" "Grandma J" passed away Thursday, October 22, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born December 1, 1916, in Petersburg, VA and would have been age 99 in six weeks. She graduated Petersburg High School, Class of 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Johnson; her parents, Clifton Archibald Duke and Emma Fisher Duke, her daughter, H. Leilani "Lonnie" Johnson Wittmershaus; her brother, C. A. Duke; and sisters, Thelma Young, Dorothy VanFossen, Mildred Johnson and Ramona Godwin. She had a love and talent for needlework, painting, cooking (especially chocolate and pecan pies, potato salad and fried chicken), gardening at her home in Ettrick, where she grew and gladly shared many varieties of flowers, as well as the pecans from her many trees. She enjoyed fishing on the Outer Banks with her family. As a born again Christian, she was active as a Sunday School and Bible School teacher at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, where she was the oldest living member. Mrs. Johnson was a special loving person who enjoyed life and endeared her to all she encountered and was a woman defined by family, faith and humor. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Betty J. Hales (Joe), Linda J. Williams (Charles), Susan J. Traylor; son, Carl "Buck" Johnson (Ida); granddaughters, Darlene Mackie, Lisa Kochuba, Angela Berry, Wendy Longley, Patricia Seckora and Amy Johnson; grandsons Jody Hales, Kenny Johnson, Scott Johnson, Jimmy Grizzard, Chuck Turner, David Johnson, Michael Wittmershaus, Johnnie Grizzard and Cory Turner; sister, Lena Duke; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Duke; brother-in-law, Calvin "Chuck" Johnson; and numerous, much loved Great and Great-Great Grandchildren. Special thanks to her watchful, loving friend and neighbor Barbara Davis. She was fun loving and kind and will be deeply mourned and fondly remembered by her family and all who knew her. "Love hard, forgive and always keep family close." A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with the Reverend Mike Osborn and the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the church.
