Alton Harper

Alton “Earl” Harper, 88, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021. He was born on December 7, 1932 in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. to the late Hazel Dolby Hensley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Harper and his son, David Earl Harper.  Earl was a United States Navy veteran having served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Coral Sea in 1954. He was a retired meat manager for A & P with over 40 years of service. After retirement, Earl went to work for Staples Auto Parts making deliveries. He is survived by his children, Patricia Harper Kitchen (Richard) and Timothy Mark Harper (Patty); daughter-in-law, Debra C. Harper; granddaughter, Augusta Ackerman; grandsons, Michael Wayne Young and Brandon Earl Harper; and a beloved dog Sophie. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter, at 301 Charles H Dimmock Pkwy, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
