Alton Mattox entered the Kingdom of God on March 23, 2017. He was born in Prince George County on a cold winter day on January 16, 1934, to Levi C. Mattox and Gracie Cotton Mattox. He was the third of three children. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Katherine M. Howe of N.C.; two nephews and two nieces. He is survived by wife, Faye Boykins Mattox; a sister, Bernice M. Mattox Moore; sisters-in-law, Blanche Walker, Gloria Thweatt and Paige Grammer; nephews, Michael Howe, Mark E. Moore, and Steven L. Moore; nieces, Sonya Branham, Bonnie Seymour, Jennifer Seymour, Sandra Burrier, Becky Scott and many great-nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Texas. Alton was employed by Allied Chemical for 41 years, Waverly Police Department for 10 years and Waverly Particle Board for three years as a Security Officer. He elected to retire at 76 and stay home with his cat, Bella and his wife, Faye. There will be a celebration of life service, that will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George County in the Mausoleum Building. He was a member of Waverly Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board and was called upon to teach the adult Sunday school class. The family expresses great gratitude to Hospice of Virginia for the love and care provided by their staff at the end of his earthly life. He leaves a legacy of faith, work ethics and the love of God to his family and his community. A heartfelt thank you for those that supported and assisted us in his later years as maintenance providers (Tony Vlk), lawn care (Jerry Murphy), and other friends and family who helped us remain at home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Crater Hospice, Crater Road, Petersburg, VA, or Hope for Israel, P.O. Box 29207 Richmond, VA 23242. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
