Alvin Lewis Harvanek, 61, of Prince George, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Julius W. and Helen Martin Harvanek. Mr. Harvanek was preceded in death by his brother, George W. Harvanek. He was a member of Rock Church of Petersburg, a former employee of Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company and currently employed with VDOT for 27 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jean Harris Harvanek; a daughter, Penny Grubbs and husband, Lenny; granddaughter, Lydia Jean Grubbs; mother-in-law, Bertha R. Harris; brothers, Jules Harvanek and wife, Barbara, Edward Harvanek, and Raymond Harvanek and wife, Darlene; sisters, Elsie H. Harrison, Margaret H. Belcher, Adella H. Swimeler, Roselyn H. Henshaw, Mildred H. Mulder and husband, Huss, and Edith H. Daulton and husband, Vernon; sisters-in-law, Susan Johnson, and Jackie Harris Martin; brothers-in-law, Ricky Harris and wife, Annie, and Mason Harris and wife, Brenda; numerous favorite nieces and nephews; special attending friend, Debbie Smith; neighbors, Jerry & Frances Cole, and Michael. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 in the Rock Church of Petersburg, 2301 County Drive, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Sonja Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service.
