Andrew Sweeney

SGT Andrew J. Sweeney USA (ret.), 61, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at MCV Medical Center. Born in Syracuse, New York he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Gertrude Helen Sweeney. Andy was a decorated veteran having served his country proudly in the Vietnam War, and was stationed in Korea. He was employed by Southern Hardware for 14 years, was a member of the Ettrick American Legion Post #136, and the Surry Hunt Club. He was a very devoted father and husband and is survived by his wife of 23 years, Paula Sweeney; his children, Michael Sweeney and wife, Susan of British Columbia, Canada, Shawn Sweeney and fiancée Marie of Waterloo, New York, Jacob Sweeney and wife, Marcy of Mesa, Arizona, Zachary Sweeney and wife, Shannon of Malone, New York, Lisa Pegram and husband, Timmy and Shelly Kitchen and husband, TT all of Colonial Heights; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil and Carl Sweeney both of New York; three sisters, Bonnie Sweeney of New York, Barbara Porter of Delaware and Patty Hall of New York; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. Ray Haskett officiating. Private interment. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
