Angelo L. Davila Jr., SFC, US Army (Ret.) of Chesterfield passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. Francis Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 24,1957 in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of the late Angel Davila Sr. and was raised by his mother, the late Maria Badillo and his stepfather, the late Richard Badillo. He enlisted in the Army in 1976 and served 20 years, retiring in 1995. During his military career his assignments included Ft. Campbell, KY where he changed his MOS from infantry to 91 Charlie, enjoyed rappelling from helicopters, and was an excellent marksman on the Service Pistol Team of the Army Marksmanship Unit, Ft. Poke, Louisiana, Ft. Sam, Texas where he was licensed as an LPN, Ft. Ord California where he was certified as an EMT and Ft. Lee, Virginia where he served in a Field Unit. He was assigned overseas in Wurzburg, Germany where he was the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Emergency Room. He proudly served in the Persian Gulf during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield where he participated in setting up a field hospital and treated many wounded personnel. During his 20 years in the military he received the following honors and decorations: Army Service ribbon; Army Achievement medal, Army Commendation medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development ribbon - Level 3, Overseas Service ribbon, Southwest Asia Service medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the Kuwait Liberation medal. During his tenure in the Army he also earned the Jungle Expert tab, Air Assault Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. Following his retirement, he worked for several years at Henrico Doctor's Hospital. During his lifetime he enjoyed swimming, lifeguarding, art and photography. He especially enjoyed fishing and had many fishing buddies over the years. He was genuinely respectful and caring toward others and was highly liked by those he met. Both those who worked with him and those whom he cared for said he was an outstanding and compassionate nurse. He was the first one people called whenever they experienced an emergency as he always knew how to help. And in difficult times, even up to the last day of his life, he maintained his sense of humor and was careful to convey his love and appreciation to the family who surrounded him. He is survived by his children, Melinda Kight and her husband, Ken, Angelo Davila III and Richard Davila, whom he shared with his former wife, Becky Davis; his children, Adam Davila and Makenna Davila whom he shared with his fiancée, Christi Maiden, her daughter, Katelynn Carpenter; his grandchildren, Jadyn, Olivia and Jackson Kight; his brother, Carlos Hernandez and his wife, Josie; his sister, Maria Morales and her husband, Marlon and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia 23002.
