Ann G. Blankenship, 89, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Colonial Heights Health Care Center. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Murrell W. and Mae Smith Godsey, and was preceded in death by her husband, Claiborne A. Blankenship. Mrs. Blankenship was a former member of First Baptist Church, Petersburg, and recently attended Third Presbyterian Church, Petersburg. Along with her husband, Mrs. Blankenship owned Clay's Market in Petersburg, and after retirement they both worked for Short Stop Grocery. She is survived by her two daughters, Patty Barfield and husband, Ralph of Palmyra, and Clay Blankenship & Greg Hubbard of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Matt Barfield and wife, Stefanie, Allison Hughes and husband, Ben, and Garrett Barfield; two great-grandchildren, Graham and Evelyn Hughes; three nephews, Kenny, Phil, and Scotty Nichols; two nieces, Phyllis Gordon, and Judy Woolard. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 20, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
