Anne Horner

October 16, 1922 — May 2, 2013

Anne Sowell Horner, 90, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Born in Richmond, she was the daughter of the late Frank B. and Alice King Sowell. Mrs. Horner was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Raymond Horner, a step-grandson, Allen Horner, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Sowell. "Miss Anne" was an active part of Colonial Heights. She rarely missed a Sunday of volunteering in the nursery or singing in the choir at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, as long as she was able. She was also active in many civic organizations including the Red Cross, Federated Women's Club, and District 19. Working the election polls, wrapping packages for the Christmas Mother Program, fellowshipping with the Chat-Sews and exercising with other seniors were some of her favorite pastimes. She was someone who is dearly loved because she chose to love so many people in so many ways. She is survived by a daughter, Leslie H. Kendall and husband, Bob of Wilson, N.C.; son, Marion Raymond Horner Jr., and wife, Betty of Colonial Heights; a step-son, Danny Dean Horner and wife, Diane of Frisco, Texas; six grandchildren, Bryan Bissette, Tammy Lively (Jeremy), Brooke Bissette, John Horner (Tasha), Philip Bissette, Richard Horner; two step-grandchildren, Barbara Dobbert (Greg) and Sharon Yehlen (Tom); seven great-grandchildren, Hailey and Emma Bissette, Jacob and Andrew Lively, Madison, MacKenzie and Ethel Horner; three step-great-grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Dobbert, and Emma Yehlen; a brother, Pete Sowell of Charlotte, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Catherine Horner of Ponca City, Oklahoma; many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Dr. Andy Brockelman officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at church.
