Anne Marie Michalek, born June 29, 1948, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a brief illness on January 1, 2025. She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony J Michalek, Sr and Marie Pesko Michalek, her brother James Michael Michalek, maternal grandparents Maksim and Anna Adzerikha Pesko, paternal grandparents Vladimir (Elijah) Michalek and Rosie Jilek Michalek Cerny, step-grandfather Rudolph Cerny
She is survived by her brothers Anthony J Michalek, Jr (Mary) (Midlothian), and Thomas E Michalek (Col Hgts and Batumi, Republic of Georgia), her sisters Susan Michalek Boyle (Kevin, Sr) (Burke), Ruth Michalek Poe Zimmer (Cliff) (Col Hgts), and Dorothy Elizabeth Michalek (Col Hgts), nieces and nephews Joe Michalek, III, Heather Poe Savasta, Mary Bridget Poe Vaccaro, Lisa Michalek Jameson, Kevin M Boyle, Jr., Nicholas A. Poe, Paul E. Michalek, and Jack (Kennedy M.) Boyle, grand nieces and nephews Isabella Jameson, Mariah Jameson, Keeley Savasta, Nolen Savasta, Myles Vacarro, Berklee Vacarro, Katarina Boyle, Scarlett Boyle, and numerous cousins, friends, and acquaintances.
Anne was a 1967 graduate of Colonial Heights High School. She graduated from Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1970, in 1974 from UVA with a BS in Nursing, and later received her master’s from VCU., She was employed by Petersburg General Hospital as an RN for 20 years before moving to VCU for an additional 20 years. She retired after 40 years to be a caregiver for her mother.
Anne was a member of St Ann Catholic Church where she volunteered at Our Daily Bread – St Ann’s Food Pantry. Anne was President of CSA Fraternal Life Lodge #230 Virginia (Czechslovak Society of America) and a member of Catholic Golden Age, Queen of Peace Chapter – Richmond. Anne was a regular attendee at both the monthly “Cousins” lunch and the Retired Nurses and Friends – PGH & SRMC luncheon.
Anne was a lover – she loved to garden – flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees. She loved to travel and visited Greece, Germany, USSR, and other countries in a Rhine River cruise, which included the Czech Republic. She was a lover of cats, dogs, cooking with sausage, politics, and cats. She was a lover of crafts, especially sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her favorite pastime – shopping.
The Central Virginia Nurses Honor Guard will be present to honor her nursing career.
Visitation will be at St Ann Catholic Church on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 5-8 pm, with the recitation of the Rosary at 7pm. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, with Father Ernest Bulinda officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. A reception will be held in Condon Hall at St Ann following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry, St Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Route 1, South Chesterfield VA 23834.
Pallbearers are Joe Michalek III, Paul Michalek, Kevin Boyle Jr., Nick Poe, Chris Poe, and Cliff Zimmer.
