Annie Mae Spain, 88, of Colonial Heights, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Willie C. and Nelly Newby Stywater. Mrs. Spain was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Maynard Spain, Jr., a son, Thomas Edward Spain, a grandson, Chris Edward Spain, and a brother, Willie Buck Stywater. She was a retired printer with Owen Printing Company. Mrs. Spain is survived by a daughter, Donna S. Jones and husband, Roger G. of Springfield, Ohio; a granddaughter, Tommie Ellen Clare and husband, Bryan of Chesterfield; two great-grandchildren, Jesse Hampton Hackett and Devlyn David Clare; two sisters, Frances Stywater Wolfrey of Sussex, and Ruby Stywater Vlk of Hopewell; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca M. Spain of Chester; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg with Dr. Ruth Burgess officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday (tonight) at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
