Arthur Burton Dean Sr., 82, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Born in Petersburg on November 27, 1938, he was the son of the late James L. and Virginia Tipton Dean, and was preceded in death by a brother, James Lee Dean Sr.
Arthur was a graduate of Petersburg High School, he proudly served in the United States Navy, and attended John Tyler for two years. He retired as an Item Manager for the Defense General Supply Center. Arthur and Barbara owned Hughes Flowers in Colonial Heights, for 15 years, before both retiring. He was a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union (IATSE), the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #882, and former longtime member of the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew. He loved his lottery and pull tabs. He was an avid UVA and Washington Redskins fan. He loved water skiing, boating and the beach. His most recent love was for the game shows. He was a loving, caring husband, father, and papa.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Watkins Dean; daughters, Daphne Dean Gates (Tom) of Colonial Heights and Kelley Dean Bogue (David) of Chesterfield; son, Arthur Burton Dean Jr. (Amy) of Chester; grandchildren, Arthur Burton Dean III, Austin Brandon Dean, Ashton Blakely Dean, John Nicholas Bogue, and Savannah Reese Bogue; brother, John Melnott Dean; and numerous nieces & nephews.
The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2021 for a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. His remains will rest on Sunday, January 17, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com .
