Aubrey Lee Cotten, 96, of Colonial Heights, died Tuesday, March 24, 2008 at the Dunlop House. Mr. Cotten was the son of the late Thomas and Lottie Dunnavant Cotten, he was the widower of Martha M. Cotten, and was preceded in death by three sisters Margaret Dorothy, Edith; two brothers, Milton and Randolph. He was the owner and operator of Colonial Heights Hardware store for 38 years, a member of Highland United Methodist church, a charter member of Colonial Heights Lions club with perfect attendance for over 66 years, a lifetime member of Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce a WW II United States Navy Veteran, a member American Legion Post 284 and the T.P.A. After retiring from the hardware store Mr. Cotten went to work for Curtis Paint and hardware for five years, he then went to work for Boulevard flowers for nine years. Survivors include his daughter, Linda C. Morton of Colonial Heights; sons, Robert M. Covington and wife, Betty of Colonial Heights and Richard B. Covington and wife Marilyn of Richmond; five grandchildren, James R. Covington and wife, Bethany of Richmond, Mark D. Morton and wife, Amanda, Mason C. Morton and wife, Sara all of Richmond, Robert A. Covington of Chester, Martha Kay Covington of Hopewell, five great-grandchildren; a loving friend, Dottie Seeley of Colonial Heights,several neices and a nephew. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Highland United Methodist Church 125 E. Westover Ave Colonial Heights, with the Reverend Keith Ritchie and Reverend Bill Rawlings officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends Thursday (today) March 26, 2009 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory 2033 Boulevard, 23834. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Highland United Methodist Church and Colonial Heights Volunteer Fire and EMS P.O.
