Audrey Wray Partin, 93, of Matoaca, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 surrounded by her devoted daughters, Kelly and Vikki.
Audrey was the daughter of the late Hugh and Martha Anne (Annie) Barnes Wray. She was the widow Dr. George R. Partin (Wugga). Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Irvine Wray (Bubba) and her son-in-law, Cornell Ward (Vikki).
She is survived by her beloved daughters, Kelly P. Mattson and her husband, Curt of Glen Allen, and Vikki P. Ward of Surry; three cherished grandchildren, Glen Cornell Ward of Surry, Erika Ward Hahn and her husband, Terry of Prince George, and Lauren Larkin and her husband, Charles of Glen Allen; her treasured great-granddaughters, Olivia Grace Hahn and Audrey Harper Matthews, who were her pride and joy. She is also survived by her dearly loved and devoted companion, Sally Jo Butler of Matoaca, who brought her much love and joy.
Audrey graduated from Greensville High School in June of 1944 and worked for Bell Telephone Company in the years that followed. Audrey was a member of Matoaca United Methodist Church and several civic organizations. She loved to be with her family and friends at her home, the river, and the beach. She also enjoyed playing Bridge and shopping.
On October 7, 1949, Audrey married the love of her life, George Ray, and they were married for 63 years. Audrey’s greatest joy in life was her family. They spent many joyful days together and cared for her to the end.
The family would like to thank her many caregivers, specifically Arlene, Jackie, Tanya, Carla, and Kayla. These special ladies tenderly cared for her over the last years and were a great source of strength and comfort to the family. The family also extends thanks to Crater Community Hospice for their support and care.
A celebration of life will be held graveside at East Matoaca Cemetery, Memorial Avenue, South Chesterfield, 23803 at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 with Fr. Thierry Hakpon officiating. Funeral arrangements made by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
