Barbara Maria Fender, 87, of Colonial Heights, a current resident of the Petersburg Home for Ladies, passed away on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Weiden, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Max Ertl and Maria Wurdack. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hainey Saunders and Major USA (ret.) Ray Henry Fender, and a step-son, Jeffrey R. Fender. Mrs. Fender was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by her sister, Annelies Kinner of Weiden, Germany; two goddaughters, Barbara Ann Lucy of Prince George and Graziella Maria Wilson of Colonial Heights; a step-daughter, Valerie Bowman and husband, Bill of Richmond; a step-daughter-in-law, Diane Covington Fender of Chester; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; other living family members, Justin and Cara Lucy; special lifelong friends, Elsa and Ernest Wilson of Colonial Heights; numerous church family from St. Joseph. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with Fr. Brian Capuano, Celebrant and Fr. Jay Biber, Concelebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Petersburg. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
