Baxter Sessums

Baxter J. Sessums, 86, of Dinwiddie County, VA passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Johnston Willis Medical Center. Born in Martin Co., North Carolina he was the son of the late Berry June and Ada Lee Carson Sessums; and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Berry Sherwood Sessums, Alton Frank Sessums and David Lafayette Sessums; and three sisters, Ellen Sessums Ruch, Rachel S. Baker and Rosa D. Jackson. Mr. Sessums was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He received his MBA from the University of Richmond and was a volunteer worker for 25 years at Sutherland Elementary School. He was a charter member and on the Board of Directors for the Dinwiddie County Rescue Squad. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Denise O'Quinn (Stephen A.) of Brunswick, GA, and Deborah Leigh Sessums (Stephen Michalek) of Dinwiddie; two sons, Baxter Jay Sessums (Ashley) of Dinwiddie and Christopher R. Sessums (Brooke Sadler) of Dinwiddie; five grandchildren, James Brandon Roberts, Ada Leigh Webb, and Caleb, Joshua and Sarah Sessums and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Matoaca Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Joyner, officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Matoaca Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Sessums.
