Benjamin Franklin Carey Jr., 66, of Disputanta, passed away August 12, 2022. He was born on June 22, 1956, in Wilmington, Delaware to Beryl Stanton Carey and Benjamin Franklin Carey Sr. Mr. Carey served his country in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years of Submarine Service, and was a Field Service Representative for Nalco Chemical Company. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and Scottish Rite, and enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting and fishing. He was always there to lend a hand whenever possible, and his greatest joys were teaching his grandchildren and spending time with his family. Mr. Carey was preceded in death by his father, Ben Carey Sr.; and sisters, Marian Carey and Ruth Carey. He is survived by his wife, Debra Carey; daughters, Deidre Gill (Jeremy) and Rachel Shute (Nick); grandchildren, Kaleb Gill, Carter Gill, Aubrey Gill, Benjamin Shute, and Ayla Shute; mother, Beryl Stanton Carey; and brother, Robert Carey. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation ( garysinisefoundation.org/donate ) or to the veteran support charity of your choice.
