Benjamin R. "Bud" Simmons, 86, of Sutherland, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Brighter Living Assisted Living Center. Born in Prince George County, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Lena Williams Simmons, and the widower of Mary Wade Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a United States Navy veteran, Seabee, Machinist Mate Third Class, having served during World War II. He was a member of the Powhatan Starke Masonic Lodge #124 AF&AM, the Matoaca Sportsman Club, and the McKenney Hunt & Fish Club. Bud is survived by his son, Larry Wade Simmons and wife, Mary of Dawsonville, Georgia; two daughters, Anne Butcher and husband, Bob of Midlothian, and Nancy Odum and husband, Dan of Dinwiddie; five grandsons, Jay Whitaker, Thomas Benjamin Carter, Adam Wade Carter, Daniel Randolph Simmons, and Robert Cole Simmons; one granddaughter, Katie Simmons; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Gage Carter and Brooke Olivia Whitaker; two sisters, Mary Ozmore of Matoaca and Lena Rivers of Chesterfield; and devoted friend, Frances Redd of Dinwiddie Mr. Simmons will be laid to rest, beside his wife Mary, at a Graveside Service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George with the Reverend Carl Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
