Mrs. Bernice White Brinkley, 92, widow of William Howard Brinkley, passed away on March 11, 2009 at the Petersburg Home for Ladies. She was a child of God. Mrs. Brinkley was born in Martin County, North Carolina on March 17, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Mamie White, and was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Brinkley. She attended schools in Rocky Mount North Carolina where she lived until 1936 when she moved to Colonial Heights, Virginia. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Judith Brinkley Berry and husband John K. Berry III, of Hilton Head S.C.; granddaughters, Misty Michelle Brinkley King and husband Brandon of Powhatan, VA, Shea Brinkley Walters of Midlothian, VA and Elizabeth Berry Sullivan and husband Dan of S.C.; grandson, John K. Berry IV, of N.C.; great grandsons, Andrew Cameron Berry, of N.C., William George Sullivan and George Daniel Sullivan of S.C., great grand daughters, Rebecca Lynn Walters and Emily Nicole Walters of Midlothian, VA, and Susan Leah Varney of N.C.; a sister in-law Virginia White and a niece Cheryl Greene both of N.C. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday March 16, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will take place 2:00 P.M. at Pineview Cemetery, Rocky Mount, North Carolina on Tuesday March 17, 2009. The family will receive friends from 2:30-4:30 on Sunday at the funeral home.
