Bessie Arrington Munford

Bessie Arrington Munford, 73, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born into a large family on June 19, 1951, she was the youngest of 13 children to the late David Stokely and Ardys Evelyn Arrington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Munford; special friend, Gerald Brown; grandson, Lawson Motley; siblings, Hattie, Lucy, Melvin, Ralph, Howard, Paul, Ruth, Tommy, and Faye.

A devoted member of Western Heights Baptist Church, Bessie’s faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her in all that she did. She worked as a retail clerk for various stores throughout her life but found her true calling as a bus driver. For 30 years, Bessie faithfully drove for Lynchburg Public Schools and Colonial Heights Public Schools, ensuring the safety and care of countless students during her long and dedicated career.

She is survived by her sons, Rocky Motley and wife, Heather of Henrico, Michael Motley of Pilot Mountain, NC; grandson, Justice Motley; great-grandson, Leo Motley; siblings, Kenneth, Shirley and Betty; special friends, Linda and Billy Rogers; and numerous extended family members, friends and church family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Rd, Petersburg, VA 23803. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secour Hospice, 5855 Bremo Road, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226.
