Betty Furman Covington, 72, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018. Born in Petersburg, on April 20, 1946, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander Furman Jr. and Mildred Talbott Wright Furman. Betty was a longtime member of Highland United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge and retired from Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield as a Customer Service Representative. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert M. "Bob" Covington; a son, Robert A. "Rob" Covington (Rotha); a daughter, Martha Kay Covington; sisters, Johnnie F. Humphrey and Barbara F. Story (Wayne); brother-in-law, Richard B. Covington (Marilyn); and sister-in-law, Linda C. Morton (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2018, at Highland United Methodist Church, 125 E. Westover Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Joe Carson officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Cancer Institute: Thomas Johns Cancer Hospital, 1401 Johnston-Willis Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23235.
