Betty A. Cox, 74, of Prince George, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Merle and Opal Clinard Addison, and the widow of Roy Smyltzer Cox Sr. Mrs. Cox was a past member of Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, and was an active member and Deacon of Crowder Memorial Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Petersburg High School ,Stewart Circle School of Nursing and a nurse for 45 years with Southside Regional Medical Center, formerly Petersburg General Hospital, and a volunteer at the Petersburg Baptist Association. Mrs. Cox is survived by three children; Roy S. Cox Jr. and wife, Kimberly of Chester, Cynthia "Cindy" Cox of Richmond; and Steven "Randy" Cox and wife, Mary of Midlothian; two grandsons, Seth Addison Cox of Chester and Mason Randall Cox of Midlothian; a sister, Rose A. Humphries and husband, J.W. of Matoaca; and a brother, Merle Franklin Addison Jr. and wife, Gloria of Brandon. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Joe Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
