Betty Dieffenbach

April 30, 1950 — December 30, 2021

Disputanta

Betty Ann Dieffenbach, 71, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born on April 30, 1950, in Asheboro, North Carolina, to the late Robert Harold and Nadine Brewer Cagle. Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Cagle, Jr., of Randolph, NC, and her half-brother, Roy Lee Cagle, of Randolph North Carolina. She grew up with her mother and brothers in a rural community of Franklinville NC. Their "old house" was on a dirt road with no running water; they fetched water from a spring for bath and drinking water and used the outhouse for their toilet. According to her brother, Betty ran screaming from the outhouse one day with her panties down around her knees when a spider visited her!  They eventually moved from that old house into separate homes and Betty worked briefly in a cotton mill in Franklinville, but mostly as a waitress. When I met her in 1980, she was a waitress at the Blue Mist Restaurant in Asheboro, North Carolina. In 1982, after dating for a couple of years she married her husband, Jared, and moved with him to Fayetteville, NC, and became an Army wife for 12 years before he retired in 1994. During these military years she earned her GED and went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nursing degree at Fayetteville Technical Community College. Immediately after graduation she worked as an LPN at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center for five years. In 1994, she and her husband and granddaughter moved to Disputanta, Virginia, and became members of the Carson United Methodist Church. She loved her family, her pets over the years, and her church family. She taught sunday school there for 10 years. One of her favorite pastimes was coloring cards and pages in adult coloring books. She made some beautiful cards that she would send to friends and family "Created with Love." Betty is survived by her loving husband, Jared Dieffenbach, of Disputanta, Virginia; son, Ricky Cagle, of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter, Shauna Tart, of Hope Mills, North Carolina; brother, Eugene Cagle (Teresa) of Ramseur, North Carolina; half-sister, Elaine Cagle (Deb) of Wilmington, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Kayden, Kensley, and Emma Tart. A Celebration of Life and burial service at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchant Hope Road, North Prince George County, Virginia 23860, will be determined at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carson United Methodist Church, PO Box 7, Carson VA 23830, or to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg VA 23805.
