Betty King

Heaven gained an amazing angel March 17, 2016 as Betty Hart King 88, long-time resident of Colonial Heights went to be with the Lord. She was born September 1, 1927 in Dendron, VA. Betty was retired from the U.S. Civil Service at Fort Lee, VA where she worked at Kenner Army Hospital. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald Paul King; her mother, Edna Atkinson Hart; her father, Clyde Clifton Hart; her sister, Norma Hart Harper; and her brother, Carl Atkinson Hart. She is survived by her daughter, Dana King Bates (Gerald) of Colonial Heights, VA; her son, Larry Paul King of Petersburg, VA; her sister, Feigh Hart Hales of Ashland, VA; grandchildren, Larry Paul King, Jr.(Sandra) of Marietta, GA, Aimee Ramsey Rhodes (Jason) of Colonial Heights, VA and Ashleigh Ramsey McDonald (Jay) of Chester, VA; great-grandchildren, Kennadi Hallie King and Bennett Michael King of Marietta, GA, Hunter Randolph Rhodes and Emilie Christine Rhodes of Colonial Heights, VA, Jayme Todd Ramsey, Landen Jay McDonald and Mason Jay McDonald of Chester, VA; and many nieces and nephews. A very devoted niece Jeanine Harper Maruca. Betty was a wonderful, loving, caring, giving Mother, Grandmother and Friend to many and her memory will be forever cherished. Betty adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than life itself and was the true meaning of a devoted mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. She was and will be remembered by all as classy, sassy and witty one of a kind "Nana" who made friends with all and left an impression no matter where she went. She loved a game of bingo or a game of bridge and was a member of the Red Hat Society (Red Hot & Sassy Chapter). The family would like to offer our sincere appreciation to Crater Hospice during their time of need. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday March 20, 2016 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard 23834. Burial will be Private. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post 284, 505 Springdale Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 or the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter P.O. Box 3401 Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
