Betty Foster Jones Ridout passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Petersburg Home for Ladies on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. Born on July 24, 1927, to the late Elizabeth Sherertz Foster and Eugene B. Foster, Betty was a beloved only child. She grew up in Petersburg, Virginia and attended Mary Washington College. Betty married Dr. James Tazewell Jones, Jr in 1948 and raised five loving children, Vicki Jones Baldwin (Greg), Sandra Lee Jones, Susan Jones Parent (Wally), James Tazewell Jones, the third (Shirley) and Richard McConnell Jones. Both sons preceded Betty in death. Special mention of Broocks Myers Casey, who Mother considered her fourth daughter. Betty had six grandchildren, Allison Springer, Billy Baldwin (Maylisa), Victoria Graves, Andrew Baldwin (Isabelle), Bo Shelton (Denise), Matthew Shelton (Cindy) and 12 twelve great-grandchildren a brother in-law, John B. Jones (Lawana), Betty married the second love of her life, Bill Ridout, in 1974 and they were happily married for 25 years. He proceeded her in death. Bill had two loving and devoted children, Robin Borkowski (Tom) and David Ridout (Connie), six step grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. Betty loved music, played the piano beautifully, was active in her church, teaching Sunday School, an avid bridge player who also loved to travel and a dear and wonderful friend to so many. She was so beloved and will be missed every day by all who loved her. The family would like to extend thanks to PHFL for their excellent care of Betty, all the staff who loved her, as well as the Hospice team. We also thank E Alvin Small Funeral Homes for taking care of her arrangements. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park 2901 West Hundred Road Chester, Virginia 23831. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights, Chapel of E.
