Beverley Draucker Hill, age 77, died in Chester on July 3, 2011. The daughter of William Clay Draucker and Gay Dee Draucker was born in Crewe, Va., on July 13, 1933. She graduated from Crewe High School and received her Bachelor's degree from Randolph Macon Woman's College and her Master's degree from Longwood College. She devoted her life to the public schools of the Commonwealth of Virginia, teaching Latin, French, Common Law, U. S. History and U. S. Government for 30+ years in Amelia County, the City of Newport News, Buckingham County and Chesterfield County. Mrs. Hill loved her students and was a cheerleading sponsor, girls basketball coach, senior class sponsor and National Honor Society sponsor. She was a devoted member of Highland United Methodist Church, the Morning Star Class, and the Ann Douglas Guild Circle. She served in various capacities at Highland as a substitute Sunday school teacher, Lay Leader, Stephen Minister, chair of the Staff Parish Committee, chair of the Administrative Board, church delegate to the district conference and to annual conference, United Methodist Women, Vision Committee, District Council on Ministries and the Joy Club. Mrs. Hill was the emcee of the Southernaires, and held several elected positions of AARP, ADK, and Swift Creek Woman's Club. She was a gentle and honest woman who will be remembered for her sense of humor, fairness, dedication and love of family particularly for her grandsons. She enjoyed traveling and was known as an excellent cook and for the meals she served at her home. Mrs. Hill is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Vela Gay Hill Shinault; a son-in-law, Mr. Stuart Shinault; two grandsons, Grayson Shinault and Cole Shinault all of Chester; four nephews, Mr. Walter Hill Moseley of Kenbridge, Mr. Mitchell Moseley of Brodnax, Mr. Mitchell Moseley of Mechanicsville, and James Draucker, Jr. of Front Royal; a niece, Mrs. Carolyn Grubbs of Mechanicsville; six great-nephews and two great-nieces. Funeral services will be held in Colonial Heights at Highland United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 1:00p.m., with interment in Crewe Cemetery, Nottaway County. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. Memorial donations may be made to Highland United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
