Blaine W. Barney, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012. Born in Drumright, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Emmons B. and Ollie Ann Franklin Barney, and the widower of Alma Cash Barney, with 63 years of marriage. Mr. Barney was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II, where he received a Silver Star for Gallantry Action on Anzio Beach, Italy. He was a retired Supervisor with the Federal Reformatory, an avid golfer and member of the Fort Lee Golf Association. He is survived by his nieces, Janet Tomlin of Buena Vista, Sandy Thacker of Salem; a cousin, Mildred Hawkins of Mount View, Oklahoma, and a sister-in-law, Frances Driscoll of Buena Vista. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 in Glasgow Cemetery, Glasgow, Virginia.
