Boyd Edward Scruggs, Jr., 94, of Colonial Heights passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Born July 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Lenora and Boyd Edward Scruggs, Sr., and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Herbert, Earl and Paul Scruggs; and daughter, Monica Belvin and her husband, James Baxter Belvin, Sr.
He navigated a distinguished career with the United States Army, having served during World War II, the Korean War, the Cuban Crisis, and the Vietnam War, and finally retiring after 20 years of dedicated and honorable service to his beloved country.
After retiring from the Army, Boyd transitioned into civilian life working for Volkswagen, where he applied his skills in selling cars, followed by a tenure at Sears where he became an expert at selling tools, retiring again after a number of devoted years.
In his leisure time, Boyd enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He found solace in tending to his garden and cutting the grass.
Boyd is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Karla Budelman Scruggs; and granddaughter, Heidi Belvin Castle and husband, James "J.R.".
Interment will be private. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
