Brenda S. Edwards

Brenda S. Edwards 76, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at her residence. She was born October 1, 1947, in Petersburg, Virginia to the late James E. Scruggs Sr., and Evelyn Cimburke Scruggs, and was preceded in death by her husband, of 50 years Robert A. Edwards. Brenda was a Prince George County High School graduate class of 1965 and retired from civil service at Fort Lee.  She was a longtime member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg, Virginia and enjoyed spending time with  her grandchildren and going to the Colonial Heights Senior Center for exercise and fellowship.  Brenda is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Edwards Gibbs and husband, Troy D. Gibbs Jr.; of Prince George; two granddaughters, Skylar and Cassidy Gibbs; a brother, James E. Scruggs Jr.; special nephew, Christopher Scruggs and wife Kim; and numerous other nieces and nephews. A funeral procession will leave the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 3935 S. Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23805 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, for a graveside service in the mausoleum of Southlawn Memorial Park 1911 Birdsong Road S. Prince George, Virginia 23805 with the Reverend Duane Guridy officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
