Brenda S. Markert, 56 loving wife, Mother and Grandmother of Dewitt went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 after fighting a courageous twelve month battle with cancer. She was a member and former Sunday School Teacher at Western Heights Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. Mrs. Markert was a loan officer at Bank of McKenney and a former underwriter for more than 20 years at Bank of America.. She was the daughter of the late Dell Cloud Staples. She is survived by her husband, Wallace L. Markert; two sons, Christopher M. Bishop and Robert A. Bishop of Dinwiddie; father, Horace Staples of Petersburg; sister, Nancy S. Espey and husband, George of Tennessee; brother, Horace Allen Staples and wife Gloria of Dinwiddie; four grandchildren, Danika Bishop and Nick McKeever of Wendel, North Carolina, Kaitlyn Bishop of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bryon Bishop of Chesterfield; sister-in-law, Sandra M. Fox and husband Barry; nieces, Rebekah Foley and husband Daniel, Amy Fields and husband Curtis; nephews, William and Ryan Fox; and two great nephews Caleb and Lance Fields; uncle Tommy Staples and wife Carolyn; cousin, Lisa Staples Jones and husband Steve, second cousin Sydney Jones. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Western Heights Baptist Church 24416 Cox Rd Petersburg, VA 23803 with the Reverend Jonathan Dundalow officiating. Interment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Western Heights Baptist church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
