Brody Nathaniel Beverly, 23, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Born May 5, 1998, he was the son of Katherine Alcorn and John Allen Beverly Jr. and was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Wendell B. Alcorn and paternal grandparents, Francis Johnson and John Allen Beverly Sr.
Brody was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Petersburg, where he served as an alter server. He graduated from Matoaca High School in 2016, where he ran cross country and was in the band. After graduating, he attended Old Dominion University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in December of 2020. While attending ODU, Brody was a member of the Eta Chi Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduation, Brody moved to Richmond and started his career with Geo-Technology Associates, Inc.
A passionate outdoorsman, Brody enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and canoeing, but his favorite thing to do was snowboarding. In 2008, Brody entered the Boy Scouts Troop 184 in Colonial Heights and in 2016 became an Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed traveling and joined the Venturing Scouts Program, where he had the opportunity to travel to the Philmont Reservation in New Mexico, went canoeing and portaging in Northern Tier, Canada and sail boating and scuba diving in the Bahamas.
Brody’s life motto was “Family First”. He was a beloved son and amazing brother, who watched over his younger sister, Britney, and took on the role as her protector, teacher and best friend.
He is survived by his parents, Katherine Alcorn and John Allen Beverly Jr.; beloved sister, Britney Noel Beverly; maternal grandmother, Sarah Joeris Alcorn; cherished girlfriend, Allison Christine Castellano and her family; treasured four-legged baby, Sam; three uncles, James Beverly, Ricky Beverly and Wendell B. Alcorn III and wife, Alicia; aunt, Nancy Suber and husband, Whit and many cousins, other extended family members and many dear friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington Street, Petersburg, VA 23803. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 535 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23803. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, May 15, 2022 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Boy Scouts of America - Camp T. Brady Saunders, Heart of Virginia Counsel, 8090 Villa Park Drive, Henrico, Virginia 23228.
