Cara Patrick

Mrs. Cara Dorenda Patrick, 79, of Matoaca, Va., passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Cara was born May 23, 1934 in Tazewell, Virginia. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Cara was preceded in death by her mother and father, Cora Bell Brewster and William Augustus Christian, and her beloved son, Hiram Augustus "Pete" McCray. She is survived by her husband, Walter Reece Patrick; and her children, Randi Hall, Blair Hubbard, Dean McCray, Keith McCray, Walter N. Patrick, Lynn Davis, Jim Patrick, and Bryan Patrick; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. Cara is also survived by her sisters, Nancy Dunavan and Marie Patrick. While Cara was born in Tazewell, Virginia, she made her life in Matoaca. She was a member of the Virginia Association for Family and Community Education and was recognized by her peers in 2005, in Anchorage, Alaska, with the Heart of Virginia Award. Cara served on the Matoaca Elementary School PTA for over three decades and as the President for multiple terms. Cara loved to serve the community, and loved and served her family dearly. Cara was the perfect southern Mom and wife. She was the center of her family's universe and they loved and adored her. She raised nine children to be good friends to each other that would love and cherish each other after she passed. She taught them to be the adults and parents they are by setting the example of what a parent should be. She has passed, but her legacy will live forever. A funeral service for Mrs. Cara Dorenda Patrick will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013 at Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Road, South Chesterfield, Virginia. Interment will follow in East Matoaca, Cemetery, Matoaca. The family will receive visitors between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
