Carl Matthew Gore, 79, of Colonial Heights, Virginia passed away peacefully and with dignity at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center Hospice and Palliative Care Unit (Journeys Way) on Saturday December 29th, 2018 after a brief illness. The family will be forever grateful for the upmost care and compassion given by the staff during his last days.
Carl was born on October 30th, 1939 in Dabney, West Virginia to the late Thomas and Lucy Gore. In 1961 Carl was drafted into the Army where he found his true calling and passion for serving his country. He retired after 27 years as Master Sergeant, proudly serving in Vietnam and many other tours. Carl earned several medals citations and commendation medals including the one he was most proud of The Legion of Merit.
Carl was known for his quick wit, love of adventure, mischievousness, and love of singing and mottos; his favorite, "Every day's a Holiday". He had a heart of gold and wore it on his sleeve like one of his metals and always a kid at heart, was an avid Star Wars fan.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving daughter Teresa and her husband Thomas McCrossin of Fredericksburg, Virginia, his loving son Thomas Gore with whom he resided, and two grandchildren he dearly loved and who dearly loved him; Kaela and Faith McCrossin, his brother Joseph, two nieces and several nephews. Also left behind are his two dogs he adored, Maggie and Leia. Preceding him in death are his parents Thomas and Lucy Gore, his wife and forever soulmate of 37 years Elsie who passed away in 1998, as well as his sister Mary Perry and brother Thomas Gore.
Like the passing of a Jedi, the universe seemed to know before we that he had passed. On the morning of his passing, the rains cleared, and the sky sparked with every star, and in the center a rare half ring aura like a midnight rainbow bidding the avid Star Wars fan and honorable veteran good bye and thank you for being a part of our life, welcoming him to his permanent duty station.
