After serving as a lay leader in the Methodist Church, Carl felt a calling from God to the ministry and was ordained by Reverend Roland Powell as a Baptist Minister. Along with seven other individuals, he started Living Stone Baptist Church in northern Dinwiddie. Carl served at Living Stone Baptist for 25 years until his retirement from the ministry. Although retired, he continued to serve the Lord often speaking at revivals, prayer breakfasts, and many VSP functions. He enjoyed his time at the VSP retirees breakfast meetings at Brock's BBQ each month. After retirement, Carl continued to work part-time at E. Alvin Small Funeral Home. Carl loved the Lord, his family, his country, the Virginia State Police and his many friends.
