Carol Sober

July 30, 1929 — May 22, 2015

Carol Sheffield "Susie" Sober, 85, a lifelong resident of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2015 at her residence. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Louis C. and Hazel Johnson Sheffield. Mrs. Sober was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Leroy Sober and three brothers, Louis Otis Sheffield, Robert Edwin Sheffield, and Charles Curtis Sheffield. Mrs. Sober was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Sober Groome of Charlottesville; grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Groome Moore and husband, Jerry, Steven Groome and wife, Darlene, Courtney Groome, Brandon Stell, Amy Webber and husband, Justin and Michael Groome; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Iris Sheffield Coleman, Betty Sheffield Smith, and Russell (Sugar) Sheffield Smelley. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, 17120 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with Colonel Scott Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Christian Academy, P.O. Box 6659, Charlottesville, Virginia 22906.
