Carolyn Costley Coles, 81, of Matoaca, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Born on January 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Richard B. and Louise Lanhan Costley. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. Coles and her brother, Richard B. Costley (Ida). She was the beloved mother of Arlick Scott Brockwell (Michele), Sherri Dymon (Bill), and Terri Porter (Sam); the cherished grandmother of Jessica, Heather (Cory), Andrew, Hollie, Anne, Evan, Travis, and Samuel; and aunt to Jan and Leigh-Ann Costley. Carolyn would be certain to add her beloved dogs Rufus and Ginny to the list of her cherished family.
Carolyn retired from Chesterfield Public Schools in 2006. People knew her for her wonderful sense of humor, her endearing and selfless love for her family, and for being the “other mother” to many of her children’s friends as well as to children she met in her school environment. Her laugh was contagious, her concern for those around her was endless, and her charm was addictive to all who knew her. Her passions included art, crocheting, a love for animals, and sharing a good joke and laugh with anyone around her. Voted “most unforgettable” many years ago in high school, her smile will live on with all who knew her, and she will indeed be unforgettable for her many loved ones.
