Carolyn Wallace

Carolyn Flaherty Wallace, 69, departed from this earth on October 16, 2019. She was born to the late Virginia Johnson and Richard McCroskey Sr. in Danville,VA. Growing up on the family farm instilled a strong work ethic that Carolyn carried throughout her life. She graduated from Buckingham Central High School in 1969, then enrolled in cosmetology school. After completing her courses, she worked as a stylist for over 30 years. Carolyn was preceded in death by her two brothers Allan and Richard McCroskey Jr., and is survived by her daughter Alexandra Black, her grandson Gabriel Black, her brother Michael McCroskey, and multiple nieces and nephews. While she enjoyed working as a stylist, Carolyn moved into real estate several years after her daughter was born. She held multiple positions within that field over the years, and often her clients came to rely on her for things that weren’t just business-related. She had a sympathetic ear and always gave solid advice to help others. Everyone who crossed her path, whether through work or social encounters, was left with an unforgettable impression. Carolyn had a full social life; many who came in as friends turned into family. She believed that family isn’t just something you’re born into, but also made by those who come into your life and stay. She will be deeply missed by everyone. A celebration of life ceremony will be held 6:00 p.m. on October 25, 2019, at the American Legion on 505 Springdale Ave. in Colonial Heights. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the “In lieu of flowers for Carolyn Wallace” GoFundMe account that’s been set up for her grandson’s education.
