Catherine Cogle Longstreet, 93, died Monday, September 17, 2012, at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, Virginia. She was born in Blandford, Virginia, daughter of Harold Sullivan Cogle and Callie Rives Cogle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ashton Bruce Longstreet. "Kacki," as she was fondly called by many, was formerly from Colonial Heights, Virginia, until 1986, at which time she retired with her husband to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She was a graduate of Petersburg High School and Zion Bible Institute. Bruce and Catherine met at Zion and were married in 1939. Together they devoted their life to their family and Christian ministry. A Charter Member of Petersburg and Colonial Heights Assembly of God Churches, she was an active and faithful Christian. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years. One of her greatest loves was music. From age 12 to 82, she played the organ and piano in the Assembly of God churches and at Colington United Methodist Church. She and Bruce enjoyed singing gospel music and playing their guitar and banjo. While living on the Outer Banks, they shared their music ministry at nursing homes. Until her death, she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Petersburg, Virginia. Catherine is survived by 3 daughters, Ruth Longstreet Kiser, Christine Longstreet Wilson, and Elizabeth Longstreet Titmus (Jay); one son, Joseph B. Longstreet (Kelly); five grandchildren, Cynthia S. Neal, Roberta D. McDonnell (Eric), Paul A. Spain (Joanna), Isaac C. Longstreet, Noble S. Longstreet; and great-granddaughter, Ashton A. Neal. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Scruggs; and brothers, Ralph Cogle and Rudy Cogle (Ann); devoted friend, Jeani Goodwin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sister, Pearl Minton, and brother, Harold Cogle Jr. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, followed by a 2:00 p.m. "Going Home Service" in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Dr. Gerald Miller and the Reverend Rodney Mason officiating. Burial services will take place at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Catherine Cogle Longstreet to the Zion Bible College, Alumni Assoc. Scholarship Fund, 320 S. Main Street, Haverhill, Massachusetts 01835.
