Charles Adenauer

Charles G. (Charlie) Adenauer, 86, passed away on Tuesday, January 26 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg, VA, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Adenauer was a long time government and defense contractor worker who also operated a family owned property management business. He was born in Atlantic City, NJ and attended public schools in that city and in Egg Harbor City, Camden, Belmar and Haddon Heights, NJ until his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country as a staff sergeant during WWII and Korean War. Upon discharge he attended Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ and graduated with a business management degree. He was then employed as an Operations Research Analyst in Fort Huachuca, AZ and Fort Lee, VA. He also worked as a supervisory Electronics Engineer at the HQ, US Army Material Command in Alexandria, VA until his retirement from Civil Service in October 1984 after more than 37 years with the US Government. He later worked as a Senior Logistics Engineer for the Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Hunt Valley, MD. He was a long time member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was extremely proud of his large family and would do anything for them and loved them all dearly. He was the son of the late Charles William Ade and Silvia Sophie Ade. He was the widower of his beloved wife Maryland B. Adenauer. He is survived by his ten children, Charles Ade of Neptune, NJ; Michael Ade of Hawaii; Joanne Cales; Holly Kenney of Roanoke, VA; Henry Adenauer of Ashland, VA; Carl Adenauer of Chester, VA; Leslie Tyler and husband, Joe Tyler of Colonial Heights, VA; Carol Warro of Colonial Heights, VA; Barry Adenauer and wife, Angela Adenauer of Colonial Heights; Cheryl Howerton and husband, Frank Howerton of Lake Gaston, VA; his brother Joe Ade of Haddonfield, NJ and sister Dolores of Long Island, NY; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3701 Conduit Rd., Colonial Heights, VA with the Rev. L. Raymond McGarr, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. A Legion service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the church with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
