Charles Atwater

Charles Atwater, 88, passed away at his home in Prince George, Virginia on Monday, June 26, 2017. Born on September 9, 1928 to the late Arthur and Edith Williamson Atwater, Charles was also preceded in death by his son, Victor Mitchell. Charlie served his country faithfully as a U.S. Army soldier and Marine Corps pilot for over 20 years. After his honorable separation from the military, Charlie worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry for several years and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of over 29 years, Carole Eugene Atwater; his sons, John Mitchell, Bill Mitchell, his wife, Cathi; and grandchildren, C.J. and Stephanie, as well as numerous other family members. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchants Hope Road, Hopewell, Virginia 23860 with the Reverend David Prather officiating.
