Charles Brown

Charles Edward Brown, 83, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada on September 6, 1928. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joanne Brown, who died in 1995 at the age of 67, and two sons whom he missed dearly, Robert "Bobby" Brown, who died at the age of 16 in 1970, and Ralph Brown, who died in 2006 at the age of 56. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, a retired United States Army Veteran and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Lee, Va. Mr. Brown's life was devoted to helping those in need, whether it was family, friends, or a stranger, he was always there. He spent most of his time serving the community through his church and with the Knights of Columbus where he served as a Forth Degree Knight. He had a passion for helping the homeless, and U.S. War Veterans. He is survived by a daughter, Renee Christy Daniels and her husband, Wayne of Colonial Heights; a son, Rick Brown and his wife, Nicola of New Egypt, New Jersey; five grandchildren, Aaron Christy and Ashley Christy of Colonial Heights, Andrew Christy of Radford, Bobbi Brown of Bordentown, New Jersey and Robert Brown of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; brother - in-law, Elmer Goldman and wife, Lina of Colonial Heights; and a host of other relatives in New Jersey, Canada, Florida, Alabama, and Michigan. He had a very special place in his heart for his dog Napoleon. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in St John's Catholic Church 7215 Squirrel Level Road Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Father Jay Wagner as Celebrant. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7-8:30 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Petersburg Homeless Shelter.
