Charles Frank Lindbergh Elder, 88, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born May 3, 1927 to the late William Ernest and Lottie Jean Miles Elder. Mr. Elder was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Mae Elder; brothers, William "Ned" Elder and Herman Clyde Elder; sisters, Emily Shell and Hazel Merhout. Mr. Elder retired after 30 years of service with the United States Navy; he served on the USS Indiana in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After retirement from the Navy, he went to work at the Fort Lee Commissary where he was a Master Meat Cutter. He was a lifelong member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, where he served as a Deacon and was a past member of American Legion Post 284 in Colonial Heights. Mr. Elder is survived by his children, Mark Elder and wife, Donna of Chesterfield, Jon Elder and wife, UnHui of Petersburg, Tina Ellis and husband, Brian of Fredericksburg, Andrew Elder and companion, Francine Johns of Matoaca, and Susan Clamp and husband, C.J. of Chesterfield; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Bennett of Chester, Jean Vinson of Colonial Heights, June Williams and husband, Earl of Colonial Heights, and Virginia Moorman of S. Chesterfield; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 3120 Woodlawn Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Terri Mason officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the E.
