Charles Reese Ethridge

Charles Reese Ethridge, 99, of Petersburg, VA passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Born in Petersburg, VA on March 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles Lee and Alma Flowers Ethridge. He was also preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Eileen Teachey, and his siblings, Woodrow Ethridge, Bobby Ethridge, Peg Ward and Gladys Melichampe.

Charles was a longtime member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg. He served in the United States Navy for 18 dedicated months. He retired from Elmore Oil Company after several years as a driver, and also worked for Fort Lee maintaining their grounds. Charles also ran a used auto-parts shop for many years, selling used auto parts and working on cars. His true passion was fishing and tending to his garden at home.

He is survived by his children, Rick Ethridge and Sandra E. Crone (Charles); grandchildren, Glenda, Melissa, Kelly, Michael, Christopher, Tammy, Crystal and Kathy; and numerous great-grandchildren and other extended family members.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, VA 23805. Arrangements are by the Crater Road Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, Petersburg, VA 23805.
