Charles Fleming

Charles Linwood Fleming, 80, departed this life on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Burn Center in MCV. He was born in Warren County, North Carolina and resided in Colonial Heights. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Fleming Jr.; parents, Sol Benjamin and Myrtle Olivia Fleming; brothers, Johnny Fleming, Sol Fleming Jr., and Howard Fleming; sisters, Ruth Gettings, Ada Flippin, Arneta Haddock, and Elna Stansbury Baugh. He loved attending his church, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and received great joy from his loving bible class. Charles served in the US Navy, worked at Allied Chemical, and was a car salesman. He and Charlotte were well known in the community for their years in the restaurant business. When Charles finally retired, he found he had a talent for fixing lawn mowers, tillers and just about any small engine. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Charlotte Pearson Fleming; beloved daughter, Theresa Lynn Fleming; son, Otis Jeffrey Fleming; and precious granddaughter, Meagan Nicole Barnes (Casey); sisters, Alma Walker, Eva Woodfin, Mildred Morrison, Irma Gard (Ferrell), and Ann Spence (Bill); brothers, Ralph Fleming, James Fleming (Carol), and William Fleming (Martha); and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
