HICKS, Lt. Col. Charles Russell Jr., U.S. Army Ret., age 68, of Chester, Virginia, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at a friend's home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He joined the Army in 1958 and received a commission from Officer's Candidate School at Fort Knox. He served 30 years, including two tours in Viet Nam and overseas in Australia and Germany. While in Germany, he met his bride, Astrid, and married in 1962. During this time he was awarded the Legion of Merit, four awards of the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal and four awards of the Army Commendation Medal. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Russell Hicks Sr.; two brothers, Clifford R. Hicks and Donald Cook. Survivors include his wife, Astrid G. Hicks, of Chester; daughter, Tatjana Marie Moreno and husband, Magic; a grandson, Christian M. Moreno, all of Redondo Beach, California; his mother, Marion K. Cook of Davenport, Iowa; brothers, Richard "Dick" Hicks and wife, Brenda, of Costa Rica, Calvin Hicks and wife, Diana, of Kent, Washington, Rickey Hicks and wife, Bequi, of Ottawa, Kansas; stepsister, Martha Jo Cannon and husband, Allen, of Houston, Texas; stepbrother, Jerry Patterson and wife, Phyllis, of Logan, Kansas; two uncles, Pete Koo and wife, Sharon, of Davenport, Iowa, and Paul Hicks of Caldwell, Ohio. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Fort Lee Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
