Charles Chilton "Jack" Holbrook, 92, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on April 8, 2009. He was born on May 27, 1916 in Frankfort, Kentucky and raised in College Park, Maryland. Jack attended the University of Maryland and was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He earned advanced degrees from the Army War College and George Washington University. He proudly served his country as Colonel in the United States Army Corp of Engineers, 5th Engineers. On January 12, 1946, Col. Charles "Jack" Holbrook and Jane Page of Cary, North Carolina were married in Richmond, Virginia. During his military career, his family lived in Japan, Naples, Italy, Heidelberg, Germany and Bangkok, Thailand and a number of states in the U.S., but always considered Virginia to be home. In 1971, he and his family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida from Alexandria, Virginia where he became the Director of Streets and Highways for the City of Jacksonville, then later became the Director of Public Works. He is survived by his brothers, William Holbrook of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Harold Holbrook of Olney, Maryland and their families. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jane Page Holbrook, who passed on March 10, 2005. Both Jack and Jane were preceded in death by their son, Charles Chilton Holbrook Jr. Jane Page Holbrook was born in Cary, North Carolina on March 14, 1921. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland where she was a member of the Alpha Omega Phi Sorority. Jane worked as a real estate agent. Jack and Jane were members of Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach. Jane was a lover of flowers, of watching the birds, of collecting sharks teeth on the beach, and especially of dancing with her husband. She was a kind and beautiful woman and is truly missed by so many. Jack and Jane are survived by their beloved daughter, Page Holbrook of Altamonte Springs, Florida. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Wednesday, May 27, 2009, for both Jack and Jane, in St. John's Episcopal Church, 12201 Richmond Street, Chester with the Reverend Dale Custer officiating. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Local arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
